COSMETIC FILLERS

Cosmetic fillers are used to treat passive wrinkles - the lines that are present all the time and not produced by muscle contraction.

These products are gel-like in nature and are carefully injected at appropriate levels just beneath the skin to gently lift and fill out wrinkles and folds in the skins surface.

The fillers are made of hyaluronic acid. This is a naturally occurring substance which is a major component of connective tissue in the skin. It retains water and is responsible for the fullness and smoothness found in young people’s skin.

Much hyaluronic acid is lost as part of the aging process and having the product injected is basically replacing a natural product which has been lost over the years.
Being found naturally there is no potential for allergic reactions to these products.

This treatment is a more invasive procedure so a topical anaesthetic cream is applied to the skin prior to treatment. In some cases such as around the mouth a local anaesthetic may be injected to produce complete anaesthesia of the area.

Following injection, some redness, tenderness and itching may occur at the injection sites but these effects are temporary.

Once placed, the product will have a duration period of 6-9 months after which further treatment may be required.

TOOTH WHITENING

This is a permanent treatment to whiten the teeth. It uses a gel-like product placed inside custom made trays. These are worn every day for at least 3-4 hours.

Most people take about 2 weeks to achieve a satisfactory result. However, everyone is different so it may take longer. This treatment can be done for as long or short a time period as you like. You determine the end result.

The gel contains carbamide peroxide which is very effective at removing discolouration caused by:
• Staining from food, drinks and smoking • Ageing • Root fillings

This treatment cannot be undertaken by pregnant or breastfeeding woman or those with a known allergy to the product. The result will not be as good in a heavy smoker who does not stop during treatment. Some sensitivity may occur during treatment. This is temporary and can be overcome in most people with the use of de-sensitizing toothpastes.

Existing fillings and crowns in front teeth will not whiten. These may need to be replaced at the end of treatment if the colour match is poor.

Full instructions for use will be given at the first appointment.

1st appointment: Impressions for trays (15min)

One week later
2nd appointment: Try trays and collect kit (15 min)

BOTULINUM TOXIN THERAPY FOR WRINKLE CORRECTION

Hyperactivity of the facial muscles can result in deep frown lines, forehead lines and crow’s feet. Injecting Botulinum toxin into these areas temporarily paralyses the underlying muscles, giving a more relaxed and pleasant appearance. The wrinkles become smoother or disappear altogether.

Botulinum toxin is a bacterially produced substance that blocks the release of acetylcholine, the chemical responsible for transmitting electrical impulses that cause muscles to contract.

In medicine, botulinum toxin has been used safely and effectively for over twenty years.

The initial effects are not immediate but become visible between 48 and 72 hours after treatment. The maximum effect is reached after 2-3 weeks.
Your facial expression will become more relaxed but by no means mask-like.

The effect of your treatment is temporary generally lasting for 4-6 months. Re-treatment is then required.

Following your initial treatment appointment, a review appointment will be made at which any top-up treatment required will be provided to achieve a satisfactory result.

The treatment itself is quite quick and virtually painless for most people. The needles used are extremely fine and only small volumes of product are used at each injection site.

With repeated treatments, the muscles causing the wrinkles become weaker. Therefore, less treatment may be needed at subsequent visits. The injection procedure itself soon becomes more comfortable as patients become more accustomed to having treatment carried out.
Top-up appointments can be arranged with the minimum of inconvenience to patients - in a lunchtime for example.
