What’s happening?

Update from Mike Smith

Hi again, from (not so) sunny Dunedin!

Well, I have completed a year of my studies and settled back into my role as a ’senior’ student.  Sadly, the summer did not really eventuate in Dunedin, even though Sarah’s parents did!!  Rain every day did not persuade them to move here to keep us company however.

It hasn’t been cold enough to put Max off fishing whenever he is allowed.  He is intent on plundering the local trout streams.  Poppy is dancingand playing waterpolo, while Zac is very excited about his imminent start at school (actually, we are all pretty keen on that!).

The local rugby team has started the season with yet another honourable loss, while the cricketers are warming up for the annual thrashing from the Australians….

Sarah is working hard recruiting candidates for the University Business School programmes - anyone fancy doing an MBA at the University of Otago in 2011?! - as well as joining the school PTA.

My work gets a lot more involved this year, lots of surgical cases, implants and tonnes of theory.  The research project has entered a new phase, with results starting to come in.  The bone grafting materials we are looking at seem to behave quite differently to each other, and I should be able to get a thesis out of the data!  Anyway, just 2 years to go now - maybe there is light at the end of the tunnel!!!!

Hope the snow and cold weather clears for you all soon.

All the best,

Mike (and family).
