Developing new team skills

The newest member of our team, dental nurse Charlotte Ellis, has just started her dental nursing course at Suffolk College. The intensive evening course, which will take her until May 2009, will help her learn everything from dental instruments to how the heart works. Good luck Charlotte!

Dental Nurse Deb Lawrence is taking a course in dental radiography. It will mean that she’s able to take x-rays within the practice. She’ll then be able to work alongside Julia Gregory to handle the referrals from other dental practices. Many don’t have equipment that we have such as the large x-ray machine that takes a view of both upper and lower jaws.

Eat drink and be merry

foodWe’re approaching the party season, and what better time to indulge in a few extra calories? If you want to eat, drink and keep your party teeth merry, try having a piece of cheese after a sugary treat or glass of wine. Cheese helps neutralise the acid created by food sugars, so helping to prevent decay.

Shouting at plastic dummies!

On Thursday 4th September we were visited by paramedic John Horton for our annual CPR (Resuscitation) training. This is a useful session for us as a team to make sure we are up-to-date on correct procedure for resuscitation and to also review all our medical emergency procedures. It is also a great chance to have a change from our normal routine and to take up the offer of a free sandwich.

In addition, we never want to pass up the opportunity to watch each other shouting at plastic dummies, whilst kneeling on the floor of the waiting room. Luckily, real medical emergencies are few and far between, but it pays to be prepared.
